MadiganGill Supporting New Generation through the ‘Waste Resource Operative Apprenticeship’

At MadiganGill, we are keen to contribute to the National Apprenticeship Scheme and are committed to transforming the life chances and aspirations of people by opening pathways into the construction industry. This is another key aspect of our CSR strategy for increasing training and employment opportunities for those communities that would most benefit from our apprenticeships.

In November ’22 we launched our ‘Waste Resource Operative Apprenticeship’ and the first of our cohorts were seven eager learners including: Raul Alexandru Buda, Ionel Iordache, Michael Lucas, Mitchell Byrnes, Vytautas Bublys, John Ojoko, and Christopher Robert Wilson - all of whom aspire to be ‘champions in waste’ (or experts) and are prepared to learn and work hard towards taking on supervisory roles.

We are also working with other leading training providers including a number of colleagues around the business, and supply chain partners in offering high quality and very relevant training programmes. This incorporates a structured level 2 accredited training programme, which includes professional development training and various field trips. All of which is helping our learners develop skills in legislation, the circular economy, waste and resource management, recycling, and treatment options. Our apprentices are assigned one of our mentor Contract Managers, who share their valuable insights and experience to assist with career advancement.

We are pleased to support the Government's aims of building a productive, talented, motivated, and effective workforce. This scheme is an excellent way for organisations to expand and upskill their workforce, with the vital dissemination of skills and learnings this entails. MadiganGIll are determined to seize opportunities to nurture any talent and unlock the potential of those who experience multiple barriers to employment in the labour market.

With one eye on the future, we are enthusiastic about strengthening the pipeline for people into the construction sector. So that we can target hard-to-reach areas and communities - particularly those that are most disadvantaged and economically excluded - we are working very closely with a range of stakeholders, our clients, local authorities, and community organisations. Our intention is to utilise our networks to effectively publicise and promote these opportunities to those who need them most.
