Groundwork Partnership Means Supporting More Local Jobs

Anti-Slavery Day is a good opportunity to raise awareness of the fact that over 49.6 million people in the world today, and an estimated 122,000 people in the UK, are trapped in conditions of modern-day slavery.
It’s also the right time to remind businesses, friends, family, and colleagues to do what they can to be on the lookout for this problem and prevent human trafficking, and protect victims of modern-day slavery.
Within the construction industry, modern-day slavery is still a pressing matter that needs to be addressed. As part of our MadiganGill CSR strategy, we not only make every effort to create awareness of this issue but also have stringent vetting and checking processes in place through our Compliance Team and as part of our resourcing procedures.
This is additionally supported by training our team in spotting the signs of modern slavery and placing ‘spot the signs’ posters on live project sites, in multiple languages, along with “Tool Box Talks” on modern-day slavery.
We have also ‘renewed’ our Modern Day Slavery (MDS) policy, including within our employee handbook, and have appointed an anti-MDS champion who provides development training for site and office-based staff.
We are keen to continue supporting the cause of anti-slavery because we believe it doesn’t have to be this way.
