MadiganGill Supports Plastic Free July - Helping Driving Change in Construction

This Plastic Free July, MadiganGill is proud to reaffirm our commitment to reducing single-use plastics and promoting a more sustainable construction industry. As part of a global movement helping millions tackle plastic pollution, we believe that every action, no matter how small contributes to a cleaner, healthier world for all of us.

At MadiganGill, we recognise the urgent need to reduce plastic waste, especially on construction sites where materials such as single-use Correx sheets are commonly used. That’s why we’re continuing to push forward with innovative recycling and waste reduction strategies that align with our environmental and CSR goals.

We’ve already made significant progress through our partnership with Protec Temporary Protection and our valued supply chain partner, Powerday. Building on the success of our pilot with Multiplex at their Broadway project, we’ve been actively collecting and recycling used Correx sheets from our London sites.

To date, we’ve diverted over 40 tonnes of Correx from landfill through this closed-loop scheme, which involves collecting, baling, and sending the sheets back to Protec’s recycling facility where they’re remanufactured into new sheets – ready for reuse. This initiative has saved approximately 135 tonnes of COâ‚‚e and prevented over 200m³ of plastic waste from ending up in landfill.

As @Tony Ball, Managing Director for MadiganGill Logistics and Demolition, commented during a recent visit to The Green Quarter project for St George PLC: “We are pleased with the results of this closed-loop scheme and are now rolling it out across all our projects where we are involved in waste management.”

This is just one example of how we’re putting sustainability into practice. We are also committed to sourcing ‘no single-use plastic’ products where possible and working with suppliers and clients to promote a circular economy in the construction sector.
